Infected SEO – Stuff to Think About after Google’s Panda Update

in SEO Trenches

Just recently (2/24/2011) Google has made a big shakeup, aka the Panda Update, with the idea to be one step closer to quality.

“Our goal is simple: to give people the most relevant answers to their queries as quickly as possible. This requires constant tuning of our algorithms, as new content—both good and bad—comes online all the time.” Official Google Blog

There are a lot of debates and rumors are going on within the online marketing community whether Google is cracking down on unnatural backlinking schemes and whether stuff like a penalty or punishment involved to. AdSense, dropped pages, duplicate and stolen content, all sort of SEO hats and affiliate marketing is being discussed and evaluated.

As for SEO trenches – these shifts in Google rankings are not significant right now on the websites I’ve seen so far. But considering the fact some folks are experiencing significant drops, it’s, at least, alarming to all players on the market.

I’m thinking that Panda introduces a major re-scoring and re-ranking algo change in response to all those things that are happening on the Facebook-Bing-Twitter side.

“A competitive world offers two possibilities. You can lose. Or, if you want to win, you can change.”

Some very interesting articles to read, bookmark and share on Google’s Farmer Update.

What should we be doing, anyway?

Clean up your website content and linking profile. Don’t rely on Google alone.

Adios for now, amigos.

True, the changes caused by the algorithm update dubbed as “Panda Update” are pretty alarming so far. There are a lot of sites that got hit hard in the process. With the massive damage, site owners need to adjust their game plan and regain the ranking they worked hard for. Change is an integral part in SEO, as everything gets updated left and right.
